Quit smoking and you cut your risk of lung cancer. Exercise and cut your risk of heart attack. With Alzheimer's there's really nothing that we know for sure that will lessen the chances of contracting this affliction. There's still so much progress needed and yet more and more people are being diagnosed with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia.

Owatonna's Walk To End Alzheimer's takes place Sunday, September16 at a new location. Registration begins at 9AM at the Radel Building on the Steele County Fairgrounds. An opening ceremony begins at 10AM and the walk follows at 10:20AM. You have a choice between 1 mile or 2.5 miles. This year's goal is $58,000.

This years event will feature an honorary family, the Jim Wagner family. Jim was a county commissioner for 10 years and was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2011.

You can learn more at the Alzheimer's Foundation web site.
