Turnovers Doom Carleton Women at Augsburg

Just one statistic from Wednesday night's game at Augsburg College in Minneapolis tells it all.  The Augsburg Auggies (what is an Auggie anyway) scored 28 points off 22 Carleton Knight turnovers on their way to a 62-43 win.  With about 10 minutes to go in the game Carleton had cut a double digit lead down to 4 by creating turnovers themselves and then had consecutive turnovers resulting in points.  Senior Skylar Tsutsui was her usual efficient self for the Knights wth 18 points on 6 of 11 shooting from the field and 4 for 4 from the free throw line.  Freshman Nenna Ezem added 8 points and 9 rebounds and Junior Gabbi Stienstra collected 7 points and 5 boards. Carleton shot 34 percent from the field, 25 percent from three point range and 67 percent from the charity stripe while the Auggies hit a basket 51 percent of the time and was 43 percent from beyond the three point line and 65 percent from the free throw line.  The rebounds were dead even in the game and despite getting 12 offensive rebounds Carleton scored just 7 second chance points.  It was a tough loss.  Carleton and Augsburg were tied with two other teams in the conference with 4-6 MIAC records prior to the game, just a game out of the sixth spot in the league.  The top six teams go to the playoffs.  That means this Saturday's game with St. Olaf at Carleton is crucial for the Knights with just seven games left in their regular season.  Tsutsui is now 41 points away from number eight on the all-time Carleton women's basketball scoring list, currently held by 2011 graduate Ally Weaver.  I called her the alley cat and boy could she shoot the three.  We'll be broadcasting Saturday's game from Carleton.  It's a doubleheader with the women's game starting at 1 and the men's slated for 3 in the afternoon.  I'll begin our coverage at 12:45 p.m.  In other MIAC women's games St. Mary's edged Hamline in Winona 68-65.  Kenyon-Wanamingo graduate Shelby Auseth had 9 points 6 rebounds and 3 assists in 22 minutes for St. Mary's.  Bethel outscored St. Catherine 90-77 in Arden Hills.  K-W graduate Audra Clark tallied 19 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists and her twin sister had 4 points, a rebound and an assist for St. Catherine.  St. Thomas remained unbeaten with a 62-49 win over Gustavus in St. Peter.  St. Olaf got by Macalester 64-54 in overtime and St. Benedict came from behind to defeat Concordia in Moorhead 63-61.  In Men's games, Carleton beat Augsburg in Northfield 71-65 in an overtime thriller.  The Knights had five players in double figures led by a double double by Freshman Kevin Grow 12 points and 12 rebounds.  St. Thomas downed Gustavus 64-52 in St. Paul.  Hamline rolled over St. Mary's 81-57 in St. Paul. St. John's beat Concordia 73-68 in Moorhead and St. Olaf pulled away from Macalester 74-52 in Northfield.
