This year on the first day of summer, Wednesday, June 21, musicians of all shapes and sizes, amateur or professional, no matter their musical persuasion, will be out in the streets, parks, decks and porches sharing music with the world during Make Music Day. According to MakeMusicDay.org, this event, which got its start in France back in 1982, will be celebrated in more than 750 cities in 120 countries around the world. The site goes on to state that, “Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music is open to anyone who wants to take part. All of it is free and open to the public.”

If you wish to join in or find out more about the Make Music day celebration in the Twin Cities, check out this link. It looks like they’re in the formative stages of this year’s event and are looking for interested musicians to share their love of music across both cities. It doesn’t matter what level of musicianship you’re at, it’s the love of playing music that brings everyone together. If you want to organize an event for Make Music Day in your town, you’ll find plenty of information on the website to get you rolling.

Here’s a highlight video of last year’s Make Music Day performances at Pedro Park by aspiring musicians of the renowned music school McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul. You can also see more at McNally Smith’s Facebook page.
