On a more serious note, health officials are offering tips to deter head lice. Research has shown that trying on wigs, masks and hats sometimes results in the transfer of head lice from those who have tried on the costumes previously. There's often an uptick in cases reported this time of year and it isn't just because school is back in session. It's recommended that wigs and costumes be placed in an air tight plastic bag for 48 hours to kill off any head lice. Dryer friendly costumes should also be placed in the dryer for 45 minutes to help eliminate any possible head lice.
