Owatonna eighth-grader Sydney Hunst scored her first varsity goal Tuesday night at the Recreation Center in Rochester. It was the game winner in a 2-0 victory over Century.

Hunst's goal came on a scramble at the side of the net early in the third period and broke a 0-0 tie. The goal at 2:29 was assisted by Jenna Bogen and Rilee Schmidt. As is the custom, the coaching staff requested the puck to present to Hunst. This one might hold slightly more emotion for her coach, and father, Tim Hunst. After the game he simply said he was glad someone scored.

The Huskies had many scoring chances during the night but Century senior goalie Kelsey Miller stopped everything OHS threw at her up to that point. Owatonna had several great scoring chances in the first period during a 5-on-3 power play. Hunst was denied on a breakaway in the first period. Century fanned on a couple of opportunities right in front of Owatonna net minder Asia Buryska in the first frame. She ended up with 11 saves for the shutout, including a couple of golden chances she stopped.

Hunst nearly added a second goal late in the third period. Bogen ended the scoring with an empty net tally with 12 seconds left. Grace Wolfe shot the puck through center ice where it hit a Century player and deflected deep into the Rochester zone. Tim Hunst said Bogen, "basically willed us to a win tonight. She was getting frustrated and channeled it into her legs and led by example tonight. The girls really pick up on that."

Owatonna (2-1) outshot Century 30-11. The Huskies host Mankato West on December 1 at the Four Seasons Centre.
