ESPN has released a list of the best team for every NFL franchise in its history. From Arizona to Washington, and, of course, the Minnesota Vikings, they chose the year they thought each team had its best season.

For the Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers, ESPN claims the 2015 season was their best. Other teams, like the New Orleans Saints (2009) and the Seattle Seahawks (2013), have had their greatest success in recent times. On the other end of the spectrum, teams including the Cleveland Browns (1950), and the Detroit Lions (1957) have to look back 50+ years to find the team to represent their franchises.

For teams such as the Denver Broncos, New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers, with a history of strong teams and Super Bowl appearances, the choice was a tough one. Others, including the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been less successful franchises, so picking their best teams would seem to have been a bit easier.

So, what about our beloved Minnesota Vikings? ESPN has named the team from 1969 as the franchise’s best. Yep! Nearly 50 years ago! According to their article, this was the only Vikings team in franchise history to lead the NFL in scoring offense and defense in the same season. They also forced 42 turnovers on the way to their first Super Bowl appearance.

What do you think? Does the 1969 team rate higher than the teams in the early-1970s that also made Super Bowl appearances? Or how about the Randall Cunningham, Robert Smith, Cris Carter and Randy Moss-led Vikings of 1998 who came a missed field goal away from that season’s Super Bowl? Or Brett Favre’s “last stand” with the Vikings in the 2009 season, where they again came within a play or two of another Super Bowl appearance? Which Vikings team do you think was the best-ever?
