The Steele County Humane Society has a Black Cat Adoption Special for the month of December. All black cats are 50 percent off. Kittens are $50 and adult cats are $75. Pet Adoption Day will be Saturday, December 19, from noon to 2PM at Retrofit in Owatonna.

The Steele County Humane Society has two fundraising events this month on the 12th and 13th, and both take place at the Owatonna Eagles, 141 E. Rose St.

First will be the Merry Market, now in its fourth year. It will be on Saturday from 9AM to 2PM.

Santa will be there from 9AM to noon if you would like a picture with him. A photographer will be there or you may use your own camera. Pets may have their picture taken with Santa in the entryway of the Eagles.

Golden Tones, from Senior Center, will be singing beginning at 10:30AM for about 40 minutes.

All 40 tables at the Eagles are filled. Items will include some that are homemade (crocheted, jewelry, painted wine glasses) also many vendors like Norwex, Pampered Chef and Mary Kay.

Then on Sunday, December 13, back at the Eagles will be the Battle of the Bars 4. You must be 21 to attend. Tickets are $10. It will be from 12:30-3PM. Somewhere between six and eight bars will be involved.

Area bars will compete for the best drinks: Bloody Mary, Long Island, Margarita and Creative Cocktail.

The fifth category is Most Charitable. The bars competing will have jars out to collect donations for the Steele County Humane Society and at the event it will be counted up.
