For Owatonna girls' basketball coach Lindsey Hugstad-Vaa, saying goodbye to the nine seniors on the 2017-18 roster is a difficult thing to do. The group has been there from day one for her. Many of them were members of the junior varsity team that she coached when she first arrived in Owatonna.

With a well-balanced, athletic group of seniors, Owatonna boys' basketball had the best season in a number of years. On Monday night, coach Josh Williams announced that the team Most Valuable Player Award would be shared by all five. Abe Havelka, Andrew Jackson, Dalton Kubista, Nolan Malo and Alex Raichle were each presented with a souvenir basketball.

The 1960 Edgerton boys' basketball team, which is the smallest school to win the Minnesota state championship during the single-class era, is among the honorees into the first Minnesota Basketball Hall of Fame class. Players from that team were among those recognized at Monday's Minnesota Timberwolves' game and just a couple of days after four schools won state high school championships at Target Center.

A game-winning, alley-oop slam dunk by future Golden Gopher Daniel Oturu put an exclamation point on the Minnesota state high school boys' basketball championships Saturday night. The basket was good for a 79-78 win for Cretin-Derham Hall over defending champ Apple Valley and future Duke star Tre Jones.
