The #1 Class AA  Stewartville Tigers swept the #7 Class AA Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights in the Castle in Kenyon tonight in a Hiawatha Valley League match.  Scores were 28-26, 25-17, 25-19.  After the first set the Tigers put on a passing clinic while the Knights had trouble controlling the ball.

Stewartville jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first set with three ace serves.  Kenyon-Wanamingo would not quit and had a couple leads during that set heading into the final several points.  The Tigers had two set points before the Knights came back and had two set points of their own.  On their third set point Stewartville won 28-26.  At least one of those K-W set points where a point would have won the match the Knights had a service error.

Kenyon-Wanamingo had 10 kills and 6 hitting errors in the first set, 4 ace serves, 2 service errors and a total of 9 mistakes.  Stewartville tallied 7 errors in the first set with 15 kills, 3 hitting errors, 3 ace serves and 2 service errors.

Offense was hard to come by for the Knights because they simply were out of system much of the night due to a lack of control of the ball.  Meanwhile a number of K-W hammered balls were picked up by the Tigers defense and more importantly they were able to make pinpoint passes to their setters and get their offense moving.

My unofficial stats had Junior Ally Peterson with 16 kills to lead the Knights.  Classmate Julianna Boyum had 5 kills.  Stewartville finished with 41 kills and 9 hitting errors in the three sets.  Kenyon-Wanamingo had 29 kills and 20 hitting errors in the three set match.  The Knights also unofficially had 6 ace serves and 5 service errors.

The second set was a error fest for Kenyon-Wanaminjgo.  By my tally, the Knights had 14 total errors, almost as many mistakes as points.  6'2 sophomore Erin Lamb had 17 kills and 5'11 junior Kaitlyn Prondzinski 14 kills unofficially for the Tigers.

In set three Stewartville was very aggressive resulting in 10 total errors but again they were able to overcome them because of a more efficient offense thanks to good passing.  The Tigers had 7 ace serves and 8 service errors.  Kenyon-Wanamingo finished with 6 aces and 5 service errors.

The Knights fell to 2-2 and go to Byron Thursday.  Stewartville is 10-0 and visits Triton Thursday.  Kenyon-Wanamingo participates in the Wabasha-Kellogg Tournament Saturday.
