Steele County Traffic Fatal

[UPDATE] An Elk River man was killed in a single-vehicle accident that occurred in Steele County this morning.

61-year-old James A Weinhold died in the incident. The rollover occurred in the southbound lane of I-35 at Mile Marker 26 just after 5:30 Tuesday morning. His pickup lost control on the icy surface and entered the west ditch where it rolled.

The Minnesota State Patrol worked with Ellendale fire / ambulance, the Steele County Sheriffs Office and the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Motorists are urged to aware of icy spots on area roads with temperatures hovering around the freezing mark and a forecast calling for drizzle and sleet.
