A fatal accident involving four vehicles and five people occurred Wednesday just after 5PM.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports a PT Cruiser operated by 19-year-old Kassondra Sage of Delano was southbound on I-35 near mile marker 27 outside Ellendale when a rear tire blew. Sage lost control and rolled into the median. The car split in two, with one section landing in the northbound lane.

Sage was killed when the vehicle section was then struck by a northbound motorcycle operated by 58-year-old Richard Peters of Albert Lea, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Sage's vehicle was then struck by a pickup operated by 44-year-old Michael Songstad of Emmons, who suffered no apparent injuries. The Sage vehicle was then struck by a vehicle operated by 63-year-old Gerald Wallis of Dellwood. Wallis and his passenger, 38-year-old Kirsten Lorenz of Bricelyn, suffered no apparent injuries.

The Albert Lea Police Department, along with the Freeborn County Sheriff's Office and Steele County Sheriff's Office, provided assistance.
