The Steele County Blades junior hockey team will host an open try out camp at the Four Seasons Centre in Owatonna June 25-26. Scrimmages are open to the public.

It has been a busy off-season of news for the team. Former goalie Adam Carlson signed a professional contract. Several players made college commitments. The team was purchased by the Iowa Wild AAA Hockey Club. 2016-17 will be the fifth year for the team.

New general manager Max Barron told KRFO radio that the new ownership group is excited about what is in place in Owatonna after the local group created a solid base over the first few years. Barron says the passion they had for the city and the fans were a factor for the Iowa Wild AAA Hockey Club to want to acquire the Blades. Barron also said the Four Seasons Centre is a major asset. The facility has a workout area, a shooting gallery and space for the team to be together and bond. He said its a place players can look forward to going to each day.

The tryout camp is a chance for the coaches to see players that could be invited to play for the Blades in 2016-17. Scrimmages are scheduled for Saturday, June 25, at 11:30AM and 5:30PM. There will be a scrimmage Sunday at 9:30AM. Fans are invited to attend.

Barron says coaches Nick Adamek and Bobby Solari have told him the team should have a solid corps of returners as well.
