Steele County United Way Awards Money to Area Nonprofits

The United Way of Steele County has awarded $500,000 to local human services nonprofit agencies for 2018. The programs are in one of three funding areas: income, education and health.

The income funding area agencies received $194,000 and they include the Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services, Steele County Clothesline, Steele County Food Shelf which includes the Meals in Motion, Transitional Housing, and Cedar Valley Services.

The education funding area agencies received $66,500 and includes the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Southern Minnesota, Boys and Girls Club of Blooming Prairie, Crisis Resource Center and the Somali American Cultural Society of Owatonna.

Health funding area agencies received $213,500 and include the CRC, Exchange Club Center for Family Unity, Free Clinic of Steele County, Healthy Seniors, Let's Smile Inc., South Central Human Relations Center and also SEMCAC.

A total of $26,000 will be used to continue to fund the Boots to Work program, the After School care scholarship program in both Medford and Owatonna School districts and the InCent to Save through Exchange Club Center.
