The longest day of the year has come and gone. Let the countdown to high school football begin.

While the first day of official high school practice doesn't come around until August 14, Owatonna has numerous events scheduled over the summer. Their 7-on-7 team just dominated the Gustavus tournament this week, according to the Owatonna football Twitter account.

The team travels to Notre Dame this weekend for a passing camp. Huskies coach Jeff Williams is a graduate of Notre Dame and has taken the team to Fort Bend, Ind., for several years in a row. Owatonna participates in various other 7-on-7 leagues as well.

The annual Ken Bey football classic golf tournament fundraiser is July 8 at Brooktree Golf Course in Owatonna. The four-person, best-shot tournament frequently fills up. Contact Marc Wiese at (507) 456-1547 for more information or look for a sign-up form at Brooktree, Owatonna Country Club, Kottke Jewelry or Harland's Tire and Auto Center. The tournament is named after the longtime assistant Owatonna coach, who is a member of the OHS athletic hall of fame.

Another tradition of summer is the Huskies youth football camp. The camp runs August 7-10 and is open to those entering third through 10th grades. Current coaches run the camp along with current and former OHS varsity players.

The Huskies are the defending section champs and advanced to US Bank Stadium for the state semifinals last fall. The season opens with consecutive home games against Faribault and Rochester Mayo. See their full schedule.
