Steele and Rice counties recently upgraded the emergency alert system that will inform residents about weather warnings and other time-sensitive issues.

The Everbridge service allows the county to notify citizens of emergency situations in a timely manner. The recent upgrade will allow the National Weather Service to send weather alerts directly to those who have signed up.

Even if you were signed up under the previous version of this service, you will need to validate your notification choices in order to receive alerts. You have the option to select which weather events to be notified about.

Go to the county's website, scroll to the bottom of the page for the link to the Everbridge site. Click on the "Citizen Alert Notification Sign Up" button. You can choose a variety of contact methods including text, home or work phone, or email. Residents who don't re-enroll in the system will stop receiving messages in early November.
