I have taken a purposeful, but an unusual approach to preparing for Sunday's Goldy's Run at TCF Bank Stadium at the University of Minnesota. I ran part of the 10-mile route on Good Friday and have tapered my training runs since then. I added a couple of cardio workouts with a shovel early in the week thanks to Mother Nature, who will also make her impact felt on Sunday.

Organizers have announced that 3M Arena at Mariucci will be open before the fundraising event to allow participants to stay warm on what could be a single-digit degree morning. The event benefits the University of Minnesota's Masonic Children's Hospital. I can freeze for a little while, knowing the money is going to a good cause.

I have heard experts say to dress for a run as if the temperature is 15 degrees warmer. However, on Sunday that's still sounding pretty chilly. I have really enjoyed running with my daughter at these types of events and will do so again Sunday after talking her into joining me. As I enter the tunnel to TCF Bank Stadium I will think about Owatonna graduate Andrew Stelter who just wrapped up his four-year Gopher football career and current Husky Jason Williamson who has committed to the Gophers for 2019.

My next challenge after Sunday is the 10th annual From the Heart Run in Owatonna which raises money for local families battling cancer. I will tackle a half marathon for the first time then. There will also be a half marathon relay and 5K and 10K walk/run events on May 5. There is plenty of time to sign up to assist people in our community.
