Severe Weather In Southern Minnesota Sunday

A couple of tornado warnings were issued on Sunday evening, which was a little unusual given the low temperatures.

One warning was issued for parts of Rice, Steele and Waseca counties after a tornado was spotted near Waseca. According to the National Weather Service, the tornado was moving northeast at 40 mph.

The NWS received reports of flying debris that could be dangerous to those caught without shelter nearby. The NWS said damage to mobile homes, as well as to roofs, windows, vehicles and trees was likely.

The NWS also said a small tornado touched down in Faribault County near the town of Blue Earth. A few trees were blown down but there were no immediate reports of injuries or structural damage.

It goes to show that a tornado can pop up anytime with little or no advanced warning.
