The forecast sounds great for the weekend. Temperatures in the 70s with sunshine and no rain. Let's plan a Saturday with the kids as there's plenty to do in the area.

You can start off bright and early if you're athletic as the first Depression Awareness 5K run starts at 8:30AM at the Blooming Prairie High School. Registration begins at 7:30AM.

You'll finish in plenty of time to head to Central Park in Owatonna for the Farmers Market. Hours are 7-11AM. You can take in the Steele County Master Gardeners Plant Sale. Stock up on perennials, annuals and vegetables. For some of you, it might be the second time around buying plants after Saturday night's frost.

There's still time to take care of a little business as the Owatonna Noon Rotary Club has their annual Document Shredding Day from 9AM to 1PM at the Retrofit Company parking lot. Donations will be accepted, which will go to the Rotary STRIVE program for high school students.

Time to pick up the kids and head to Manthey Park for the National Kids to Park Day. Between 11AM and 1PM there will be several free activities including a bounce house and crafts.

You can cap your afternoon off at the Owatonna Hy-Vee as they'll be hosting a special adoption event in conjunction with the Steele County Humane Society. Check out the animals looking for good homes between noon and 4PM. Hy-Vee also will be offering 10 percent off on all pet-related products. It's a chance to save on cat food, dog food and the like.

You can get a lot taken in during the day Saturday and you still have Saturday night to continue or perhaps recover.
