Rochester Woman Charged with Cyber Stalking
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester woman has the distinction of being the first in Olmsted County to face felony prosecution in a cyberbullying incident.
Olmsted County Attorney Mark Ostrem says two charges have been filed against 35-year-old Tonya Hewitt.
One is a stalking crime.
According to the criminal complaint, an ex-boyfriend contacted authorities after becoming aware Hewitt had used the internet to share a nude photograph of him with others.
He later learned an ad had been placed on Craigslist that included his name and phone number. It identified him as a “lonely trucker” who was “looking for men that are wanting to have a great time.”
When interviewed by police, Hewitt admitted sending the nude photograph of the man “because she was mad at him.” Hewitt denied placing the Craigslist ad but investigators were able to trace the post to an internet source that was registered to her.
