According to a report in the Albert Lea Tribune, John Marvin Degner, 66, of Wells, a former United South Central teacher and technology director who retired in 2016, was charged with nine felony counts (two counts of dissemination of child pornography and seven counts of possessing child pornography) in Faribault County District court, after an investigation uncovered at least 500 images and videos of child pornography on his computer.

After a search warrant was executed at his home last Friday, Degner admitted that a flash drive found in his bedroom contained images of child pornography, according to the Albert Lea Tribune. A preliminary search of his laptop found more images of child pornography involving boys ages 7-14.

Bail was set at $25,000 for Degner. Disseminating child pornograhy carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Possessing child pornography carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine. As of Monday afternoon, Degner was not in custody.

According to the Albert Lea Tribune, USC Superintendent Keith Fleming had no comment on the case as of Monday.
