New Year's Eve was almost the last day on this earth for Referee Jeff Schroder. he has been a basketball official for 27 years and was assigned to a game at Southwest State University in Marshall.

He told KARE 11 that he did not feel well and with 2 minutes to go in the first half he started feeling tired and was considering pulling out of the game. He ran down the court for a play and then collapsed. He went into cardiac arrest.

The trainers from both teams went into action, and as the players took to prayer a doctor who happened to be at the game, the brother-in-law of SMSU coach Brad Bigler, started CPR and used a AED device that the Mustangs keep near their bench to bring Schroder back.

Schroder had quadruple by pass surgery and is recovering. He hopes to get back on the court as soon as he can. SMU Coach Bigler is proud of all those involved with helping Jeff.
