Check Out A Rare Car at the Steele County Free Fair

Pickups are being featured in the Wells Fargo Auto Museum at this year's Steele County Free Fair.

One of the rare birds is a 1950 Chevrolet Ute. If you've never heard of one, it might be because it was Australian vehicle. General Motors Export Co. opened an office in Australia in 1914. They later purchased a concern that assembled GM vehicles in Australia. The first utility, or Ute, was assembled in 1935. The last Ute was produced in 1952.

The uniqueness of the Ute on display at the fair features the right-hand steering wheel and special gearing to suit Australian purposes.

Here in the United States, Chevrolet introduced the El Camino in 1959 and then again in 1960. The pickup that looks like a car was resumed in 1964 by GM.

A few of the other unique pickups on display this year include a 1955 Dodge. Sitting on the dashboard is a scale model of the same truck along with literature on the truck.

There's an '83 S-10 that looks like it just came off the assembly line.
