Owatonna boys hockey opens the playoffs Thursday at Rochester JM. Blooming Prairie and Triton boys hoops also go on the road for playoff games.

OHS boys hockey goes to Big Nine champ Rochester John Marshall for a Section 1AA quarterfinal game Thursday at 7PM on KRFO AM 1390. The Huskies were swept during the regular season by the Rockets. JM has not won a playoff game since beating Owatonna in 2007. The Huskies scored a first-round upset two years ago beating Mayo. Owatonna is the fifth seed. JM is fourth. Roy Koenig and Dave Swenson will have the action with OHS grad Eric Standke providing intermission commentary.

Thursday's other quarterfinals are Dodge County at three-time defending section champ Lakeville North, Rochester Mayo at Lakeville South and Rochester Century at Farmington. The winners play Saturday at the Rec Center in Rochester.

The Section 1A boys hockey quarterfinals are also Thursday. La Crescent plays at top-seed Northfield, Red Wing is at Mankato East, Albert Lea at Mankato West and Le Sueur-Henderson plays at Rochester Lourdes.

Section 1A, West Subsection boys basketball playoffs Thursday include Blooming Prairie at Southland, Faribault BA at Grand Meadow, Randolph at Lyle / Pacelli and Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf at top-seed Goodhue.

The Section 1AA boys basketball tournament begins Thursday. Triton plays at Lewiston-Altura and Kenyon-Wanamingo is at top-seed Caledonia. View the full bracket through the Minnesota State High School League.

Owatonna's girls basketball team hosts a make-up game with Mankato West at 7:30PM Thursday night on Kat Kountry 105FM. The OHS adapted floor hockey team hosts South Suburban at 4:30PM at the junior high. Other girls basketball features Medford home against Scaeffer Academy and Triton home with Cannon Falls.
