Polar Plunge Returns To Owatonna

The Polar Plunge returns to Owatonna's Lake Kohlmier on Saturday, January 30.

Registration is now open.

You may register as an individual or as a team. You're also encouraged to wear unique and outrageous costumes to the event. Each participant must raise a minimum of $75 in pledges. Bring your pledges with you to the plunge on January 30.

Last year's plunge in Owatonna raised about $36,000 for Special Olympics Minnesota.

Special Olympics Minnesota got its start in 1973. It helps about 7,800 athletes take part in 92 events with the help of about 7,300 volunteer coaches.

The first Polar Plunge took place in St Paul at Como Lake. The event has now grown to 20 locations throughout Minnesota. The Polar Plunge events are organized by Minnesota law enforcement as part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run, which is the largest grassroots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle for Special Olympics in the world.
