The Faribault Bethlehem Academy Cardinals faced the Pine Island Panthers on Saturday afternoon in front of a moderate crowd at Van Orsow Auditorium.

Pine Island got scoring going quickly but the Cardinals grabbed a time out and then started to get some points going. At the half, the teams hit the locker room tied at 34.

It took a few minutes for the teams to get going again in the second half but it stayed close and it was tied 62-62 when Camden Heepke missed a shot at the buzzer to send it to what would be the first of two overtime periods. Just a short time before that, Pine Island's Broc Finstuen, became the school's all-time leading scorer when he hit 1,172 points.

Things went back and forth in the first overtime, each team scoring only four points to remain tied at 66. In the second overtime, the Panthers got a bit of a lead, the Cardinals caught up and, after a great three-point shot from Hunter Dienst, they briefly had a one point lead, but then Pine Island scored and drew a foul so they got ahead again. The Cards had some missed shots and Pine Island ended up winning it 81-76.

The Faribault State Farm Insurance agent players of the game were, Jack Clark, Hunter Dienst, Brandon Trump and Alex Bongers.

Pine Island plays Goodhue on Monday night and the Cardinals face Blooming Prairie.
