I think it's fair to say Minnesota sports fans are most pumped up about the Vikings' hot start. But whatever your favorite team is, odds are they are in the news right now also.

The Vikings are off to a stellar start at 3-0 with a victory over the Packers and a come-from-behind win at Carolina. Minnesota gets the national spotlight again with Monday Night Football against the New York Giants this coming week. The more that players get hurt, the better they seem to play.

It has been a disappointing season for the Minnesota Twins as they try to avoid a franchise record for losses in a season during these final days. The team made a move toward turning the corner by hiring Derek Falvey as their head of baseball operations. It is still fun to listen to Cory Provus and Dan Gladden banter back and forth during the KRFO AM 1390 broadcasts.

A 3-0 start for the Gopher football team doesn't turn heads like the Vikings' start, but it is still promising. Minnesota opens Big 10 play Saturday at Penn State. Kickoff is at 2:30PM on KRFO AM 1390. Mike Grimm and the broadcast team begin the pregame at 1:30PM.

The Minnesota Wild are already playing games, albeit preseason. But hockey is hockey. And this is the state of hockey. The team hasn't lived up to expectations over the past few seasons. With a new coach in place, fans again have high hopes. Their season opener is October 13.

For the Minnesota Timberwolves, fans are cautiously optimistic each October only to have a slow start lead to a long winter. The also are under direction of a new coach. Maybe this is the year. Their first preseason game is Saturday, October 8. The regular season opens October 26.

The Minnesota Lynx earned the top seed for the WNBA playoffs and have been waiting through the first two rounds of the playoffs for their post-season opener Wednesday night against Phoenix at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The semifinals are a best-of-five series. Minnesota is the defending league champion.

The golfing world will have their eyes on Minnesota this week as the Ryder Cup is held at Hazeltine in Chaska.
