Only a few golfers had a score in the 70s in the first round of the Litchfield / Willmar tournament on Friday. The leader is Owatonna's Gage Schuster, who fired a 75.

Schuster has a three-shot lead on the field entering the second day of the event in Willmar. Owatonna's 345 leaves them in fifth place, 15 shots behind the leader, Hutchinson. OHS coach Keith Bangs says the Huskies overcame a 15-stroke deficit a couple of years ago to win the event. He said most golfers struggled with the windy conditions, but he was happy to have warm weather. BOLD is second at 332, Willmar has 337 and Sartell 340. The field consists of 14 teams.

The other counting scores for the Huskies are Andrew Wall with 87, John Swenson at 88 and Isaac Smith's 95.

The Owatonna girls golfers finished fifth at the 14-team Faribault Invitational on Friday with 393. Chanhassen won the invite with 355. New Prague had 372, Lakeville South 383 and Prior Lake 391.

Owatonna's Maddie Zulk finished seventh with a 90. The other OHS scores were Shannon VanReeth at 98, Marie Otterson with 102 and Megan Peglow at 103.

The Owatonna girls lacrosse team opened their season with a 20-1 victory over high school league-newcomer Hermantown. The Huskies play at Duluth East on Saturday at 2PM.

In local baseball, Albert Lea edged NRHEG 7-6 and Tri-City United rallied past Medford 6-4. In softball, TCU topped the Tigers 11-5.
