Owatonna Students Attend DECA International Event; Jack Livingston Makes the Finals

Six Owatonna High School students attended the DECA International Conference in Orlando, Fla., in late April. For the first time an Owatonna member made the finals.

Jack Livingston competed in the Personal Financial Literacy event, taking a finance test and competing in a role-playing scenario. He became the first OHS student to ever reach the finals.

Luke Bunkers and Ghoutham Manokar competed in the Virtual Business Simulation event. They advanced to the second round and just missed out on the finals.

Morgan Malo, Amber Holte and Taylor Gaveske took part in the School Based Enterprise Academy and made a presentation on human resources management.

Owatonna DECA had 101 members for the 2014-15 school year. The adviser is Scott Pierce. DECA has about 200,000 participants nationwide. The event in Orlando featured nearly 18,000 students striving for international honors. About $50,000 in scholarships were awarded. DECA prepares students for careers in finance, marketing, hospitality and management.
