Owatonna's soccer teams won their playoff openers in the pouring rain Tuesday at the Lincoln Soccer Complex. The girls edged New Prague 2-1, followed by a 3-1 boys victory over Lakeville South. Each team advances to the section semifinals Thursday.

In the girls game, Jordan Whalen scored early in the first half and scored the winner late in the game after the Trojans had tied the game. Owatonna will go to Lakeville South Thursday. OHS beat the Cougars 1-0 on September 15.

The OHS boys beat South for the second time in less than two weeks with a pair of goals from Nolan Burmeister and one from Zach Williams. The Huskies will travel to Rochester Mayo Thursday for the semifinals. Mayo edged Owatonna 1-0 September 20.

Fans may need to trade their rain gear for winter coats and hats and gloves with the forecast of highs in the low 40's and strong northwest winds expected.
