Owatonna Lacrosse Teams Maintain Share of Conference Lead

The Owatonna boys lacrosse team edged Century 5-4 Friday night at RCTC. The OHS girls sailed by Century 15-2 at OHS. Each Owatonna team is 8-1 in conference play.

The Owatonna girls lacrosse team played its final home game of the regular season Friday and dominated Rochester Century 15-2. Coach Dan Paur told the KRFO coaches show Saturday morning that Sophie Amundson scored five goals and nine girls got on the score sheet. He said all six seniors played well on senior night. The Huskies held the Panthers to seven shots on goal.

OHS goes to Rochester JM on Thursday for a 4:30PM varsity start. A win will secure a second straight Big Nine title. Owatonna and Mankato each have one league loss.

The OHS boys played at Rochester Regional Sports Stadium at RCTC Friday. Coach Scott Seykora says that seems to happen when they play Century. Owatonna prevailed 5-4 to maintain their tie with Northfield atop the conference standings. Seykora says the Huskies had to resort to some long shots based on the defense the Panthers were playing.

Seykora said, "Tyler Johnson started our scoring in the second quarter with a 25-yard laser shot. That was kind of a fun one. He can shoot the ball pretty hard." Owatonna trailed 2-1 in the first half but tied it by halftime and took the lead for good early in the third quarter. Mitch Wiese scored what proved to be the game winner on a nice play getting around several defenders, Seykora said. The Huskies scored a pair of goals with a man-up due to Century penalties.

OHS will host Rochester JM on Thursday. An Owatonna win will guarantee at least a share of the Big Nine title. The Huskies beat the Rockets in overtime in early May after rallying from a late deficit.

Also on Friday, Blooming Prairie dropped a 4-3 game to top-five ranked Mankato Loyola at Franklin Rogers Field in Mankato on a walk-off by the Crusaders.
