Owatonna wrestling and girls basketball have new head coaches this winter. The school board approved trap shooting to begin with the spring 2017 season.

OHS graduate Scott Seykora is joined by Northfield grad Adam Woitalla as the co-head coaches for the Huskies wrestling team. Seykora was a member of the 1998 state championship team. Woitalla is a multi-time state meet participant. Lyndsey Hugstad-Vaa, a former Apple Valley and Division I player, is the new girls basketball coach at OHS.

Longtime OHS golf coach Keith Bangs announced his retirement in August 2016 after more than 50 years of coaching, 35 of those in Owatonna. He is a three-time Minnesota golf coach of the year. Bangs took six OHS teams to state, finishing as the runner-up twice. He also coached basketball and volleyball and is still a football statistician for the Huskies. Mark Langlois will take over the OHS program in the spring.

2016 saw the passing of Owatonna's Mr. Baseball. Chuck Fuller died in June after an extended illness. The 1957 grad is a member of the OHS Athletic Hall of Fame and the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame after decades of involvement with the Aces amateur team. Owatonna's varsity field is named in his honor. He was 76 years old.

The Owatonna School Board approved the addition of trap shooting to the varsity sports lineup at its August meeting. The Huskies will field their first team during the spring 2017 season. Trap shooting is one of the fastest growing sports in Minnesota and is a co-ed and adapted activity.
