Owatonna Grads Earn Academic Honors

2013 Owatonna state football champion teammates Carter McCauley and Andrew Stelter continue to be recognized for their academic accomplishments in college, having each finished their collegiate football playing careers. McCauley was just named the Northern Sun Conference winner of the Dr. William Britton Scholar-Athlete Award. Stelter recently received the National Football Foundation's Hampshire Honor Society distinction, according to a news release from the Gophers' athletic department.

McCauley majored in cell and molecular biology at Winona State University with a minor in biochemistry. He was awarded the Outstanding Graduate in Biology honor after landing on the dean's list in every semester. The Britton award goes to a student who excelled in and out of the classroom and participated in the life of the institution, in addition to playing varsity sports.

On the field, McCauley was a two-time All-NSIC second-team player while setting a number of school and conference kicking records.

Stelter was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree while majoring in kinesiology at the University of Minnesota and was a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy. Stelter made 57 tackles for the Gophers in his career, had three sacks and 5.5 tackles for a loss.
