Before a chance to stun the high school tennis world, the Huskies would have to reverse their score against Northfield in Tuesday's Section 1AA semifinals.

"It's the fourth consecutive year we have had the honor of playing in the final four. It feels real good to be back there," Owatonna coach Curt Matejcek said on the Saturday KRFO Coaches Show. The Huskies have defeated Austin and Farmington in the first two rounds of tournament play.

Owatonna lost 4-3 to Northfield during the regular season. "It was one of the best battles the team has been in all season long." Matejcek added, "We battled hard in each and every position. It was probably the only match all year where we didn't win a singles match. We lost two matches in the singles category in three sets."

Matejcek hopes the team gets another chance against Mayo in the section finals. The Spartans play Lakeville South in Tuesday's semifinals. Owatonna lost 5-2 to Mayo during the regular season, one of the few teams to get any points against the tennis juggernaut. The semifinals and finals are October 13 at the Rochester Athletic Club. Section singles play begins on Thursday.

Owatonna boys' soccer coach Bob Waypa spoke with KRFO Radio about Rochester Century, the Huskies' first-round playoff opponent Tuesday at 7PM at the Lincoln Soccer Complex. "They really play tough in the post season." Waypa went on to say, "When you look at the last few years when they lost it's a 1-0 close game. They make changes in the post-season."

The top four seeds are Rochester Mayo, Owatonna, Lakeville South and Farmington. Waypa said, "There is no easy game come the post season."

The boys have won eight straight. The OHS girls have won three in a row heading into their match with Farmington at 5PM Tuesday.

Tuesday's schedule includes Owatonna volleyball at home against Albert Lea at 7PM on KRFO AM 1390. OHS cross country runs in Mankato and the girls swimmers travel to Faribault.

NRHEG volleyball plays at USC, Medford hosts WEM and Triton is at Lake City on Tuesday.
