Owatonna girls hockey opened their home schedule with a 10-2 victory over Rochester Century Tuesday with eight different players scoring goals. Anna Herzog and Margo Achterkirch each had two goals and an assist.

Herzog opened the scoring at 4:40 of the first period with her younger sister Olivia adding a goal two minutes later. Maylynn Prokopec scored the first of Owatonna’s two power play at 11:54 with assists from Achterkirch and Jamie Davison. Century got on the board with less than a minute to go to intermission on Elizabeth Oyen’s goal.

Achterkirch pushed the Huskies lead to 4-1 in the opening minute of the second period on the power play. Kiley Friedrichs and Prokopec assisted. Chloe Schmidt and Davison sandwiched goals around Oyen’s second of the game and the Huskies went into the second intermission locker room up 6-2.

Grace Wolfe and Syndey Hunst scored in the third, in addition to the second goal of the game for both Anna Herzog and Achterkirch for the 10-2 final. Owatonna killed off both penalties they incurred and out shot the Panthers 24-17.

Coach Dan Paur said afterward that Owatonna’s team speed was on display. He was pleased with the team’s performance in the face off circle and on the power play.
