Thanks to the seedings and the snow, both of Owatonna's hockey teams play at Red Wing on Saturday. The girls' game is a Section 1A semifinal and starts at 7PM on KRFO AM 1390.

The playoff game pits Owatonna against the five-time defending section champions. Red Wing has controlled the section through the years thanks to a number of standout players who have gone on to play Division 1 hockey. The Wingers boast one of the top players in the nation. Taylor Heise is a sophomore who played on the U.S. National Under-18 team that played in the World Juniors earlier this year. She is third in the state in scoring with 41 goals and 33 assists during the regular season, despite missing a few games. She had seven points (four goals and three assists) in Red Wing's 9-1 win over Albert Lea in Wednesday's section quarterfinals. Red Wing won a portion of the Big Nine title this season along with Rochester JM and Northfield.

Owatonna beat Waseca on Wednesday with a third-period power play goal by Jessica "Betty" VonRuden. She had 36 goals during the regular season, ninth-best in the state. Owatonna outshot the Blue Jays 50-11 on Wednesday. OHS coach Tim Hunst said afterward that the Huskies have to find a way for a few more of those shots to go in during Saturday's game.

Red Wing beat Owatonna 6-2 on November 12 at Owatonna.

The winner advances to Thursday's section final at the Four Seasons Centre in Owatonna against either Austin or Northfield.

In the Section 1AA semifinals Saturday night, Farmington is at Dodge County and Lakeville North plays at Lakeville South.

Due to Tuesday's blizzard, the Owatonna boys hockey game at Red Wing was postponed to Saturday afternoon at 1PM. The game will be carried on KRFO AM 1390. The Huskies lost at home to Northfield on Thursday 4-3 in overtime but had won six of their previous seven games. Owatonna closes the season with a game at Dodge County on Tuesday and a home contest with Austin on Saturday, February 13. Playoffs begin February 18. The Huskies boys play in Section 1AA and will likely go to Rochester JM for their playoff opener, but pairings won't be determined for about a week.
