The Owatonna girls hockey team opens the Section 1A playoffs at home Wednesday against Waseca. Game time is 7PM on Kat Kountry 105FM.

With four teams ranked in the top 20, Section 1A could be very competitive. The top four seeds are No. 17A Northfield, No. 9A Red Wing, No. 16A Owatonna and No. 17 Faribault. Austin is the fifth seed and they have wins over Owatonna and Faribault this season.

Northfield earned the top seed with a season sweep of Red Wing. The Wingers are 5-0 versus the rest of the section. Red Wing has won the past five section titles. Owatonna is new to Section 1A and would play Red Wing in the semifinals if both win their opener Wednesday.

The Huskies and Waseca did not play each other this season. Owatonna went 2-0 against teams from the Big South Conference, beating Luverne and Marshall during the Schwan Cup Tournament. The Bluejays were 2-2-1 versus Big Nine teams.
