On the high school coaches show Saturday morning, Jeff Williams took us step by step through the overtime sessions that led to a 27-21 double overtime win for Owatonna at Rochester JM.

 

 

Blooming Prairie football continues to find their legs after graduating heavily off of last year's state tournament team. Coach Chad Gimbel reacts to their 28-12 loss at Faribault Bethlehem Academy on Friday night.

 

 

NRHEG improved to 2-0 on the season with a 34-6 home opening win over Lester Prairie. Coach Dan Stork says a strong ground game along with good success through the air led the offense.

 

 

Owatonna High School boys soccer is off to a 2-0 start with wins over Twin Cities powers Apple Valley and Lakeville North. Coach Bob Waypa told KRFO that strong defense led to the 3-0 win at the Eagles in Thursday's season opener.

 

 

Each Saturday morning on the coaches show KRFO Radio will select the Paffrath Jewelers Athletes of the Week. For August 29, OHS senior soccer player Ryan Guenther earned the honor. Guenther is a defensive midfielder. Coach Waypa says he did a great job of shutting down Apple Valley's offense. Guenther also scored a goal and had other opportunities to score or get assists.

The area athlete of the week is NRHEG senior defensive and offensive tackle Zeke Erickson. He has helped plow the way to a 2-0 start for a team with a strong ground attack. Erickson also had 12 tackles and seven sacks in the Panthers' 34-6 win over Lester Prairie on Friday night.
