The Owatonna Fire Department responded to a fire the afternoon of Thursday, June 16, at the Krause Farm, one mile east of Owatonna on the 3000 block of 18th Street Southeast.

Commander Travis Ahrens of the Owatonna Fire Department said the fire was in a hay barn that measures 40-by-70 feet. The building was filled with straw and hay bales that he had filled three weeks ago.

The fire is still under investigation, however, Ahrens did mention that the bales will most likely be the cause of the fire.

Livestock at the Krause farm stayed safe. The fire departments put curtains of water to keep the cattle cool.

The fire departments worked to contain the fire to the building itself and to let it burn itself out. They were expecting a track hoe to pull the building apart.

Owatonna, Blooming Prairie and Medford fire departments responded to the fire Thursday afternoon.

Gold Cross was also on the scene.
