The Huskies shut out Mayo in the second half of a 35-14 victory during Mayo's homecoming Friday night. OHS is 5-1 after their fifth straight win.

Owatonna held Mayo's star running back Greg Henry to 65 yards rushing, although he did catch a long touchdown pass and scored both of Rochester's touchdowns. The Huskies limited the Spartans to 79 yards of offense in the second half and forced them to lose the ball on downs in Husky territory three times.

Owatonna's Sam Hylle capped a third-quarter 17-play 79-yard drive with a three-yard TD run. The drive lasted nearly six-and-a-half minutes and extended the lead to 28-14. Hylle also found pay dirt late in the fourth quarter for the final 35-14 margin.

Rochester Mayo scored on their first drive of the night on a 12-yard run by Henry on a direct snap. The key play in the drive was a 63-yard run by Zachary Wolf. Owatonna's Brandon Moen returned the ensuing kickoff 65 yards to the Mayo 10-yard line. Alex Emanuelson scored from one yard out to even the score at 7-7. Emanuelson connected with fleet receivers Noah Budach and Blake Westphal on scoring strikes of 72 and 63 yards, respectively, to build a 28-14 halftime lead.

Owatonna sacked Mayo's quarterback at least four times. Brett Solie recorded an interception on Mayo's last possession.

OHS hosts homecoming Friday, Oct. 2, versus New Prague. Game time is 7PM. Coronation is Monday night at the auditorium. Powder puff football is Wednesday, Sept. 30. The parade is Friday at 1:30PM in downtown Owatonna.
