Overtime regulations will change significantly December 1, 2016, due to new rules from the U.S. Department of Labor. Local businesses can learn more about the law Monday, October 3.

The Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism reports in their weekly email newsletter that the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce is hosting a webinar with a lawyer to explain what businesses need to do to comply with the new regulations.

Owatonna Chamber of Commerce Director of Operations and Interim President Rhonda Guthier invites local business people and anyone interested to watch the video conference with her at the chamber office in the lower level Monday, October 3, from 12-1PM. Please bring your own lunch.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce indicates in the newsletter, "The final rule radically increases the salary threshold under which most employees will be automatically eligible for overtime pay." They report that the current exemption from overtime pay is $23,660. The new cutoff will be $47,476 effective December 1, 2016.
