The Owatonna boys' basketball team won its delayed season opener 85-48 at Albert Lea, building a 57-21 lead by halftime. The OHS girls also jumped out early on their way to a 72-52 win over the Tigers. The Huskies' gymnastics team scored a solid victory at Red Wing to begin their season.

In the boys game, Andrew Jackson led four players in double figures with 20 points and had a couple of dunks. Nolan Malo added 19 and also had a dunk. Dalton Kubista scored 15 and Jared Fett added 12. Abe Havelka handed out ten assists. The Huskies forced 30 turnovers and out rebounded the Tigers 40-20.

Owatonna dominated at every level. The junior varsity won 72-23, b-squad 62-31 and ninth grade 56-3. The Huskies hold their home opener Tuesday, December 12 against Northfield at 7:30PM on KRFO AM1390.

Owatonna's girls jumped out to an 11-0 lead over the Tigers at the OHS gym Friday. They extended that lead to 27-4 and 35-13 before Albert Lea went on a 7-1 run at the end of the first half. OHS led 36-20 at the break. Owatonna led by 20 or more most of the second half. Lexi Falken led the Huskies with 16. Jenna Zeman scored 13. Ahna Stelter had nine points and at least ten rebounds.

The Huskies played without Sydney Schultz, who fell to the floor hard on Thursday night at Lakeville South and injured her shoulder. OHS coach Lindsey Hugstad-Va expects her to play Tuesday at Northfield. Schultz passed Angie Iverson-Ohnstad for number two on Owatonna's all-time scoring list at South, ironically doing it against Iverson-Ohnstad, who coaches the Cougars. Schultz's career total is believed to be 1,383. The all-time leader is Sara Draayer with 1,490.

Owatonna gymnastics opened their season with a 144.65 score at Red Wing, sweeping the top five all-around scores. Lindsay Bangs won the all-around. The Huskies, who are ranked second in the state in the preseason poll, return most of their lineup from a team that finished third at the state meet last winter. Owatonna is at Waconia Saturday.
