Owatonna led Rochester Mayo by just four points at the half, but pulled away for a 63-43 victory in the Huskies home opener Tuesday night in front of a big enthusiastic crowd.

Jacob Borchert scored 12 second-half points to lead a second-half surge and won the Kottke Jewlers' diamond player of the game award. Mason Thein scored 15 and pulled down eight rebounds. Jay Sullivan scored 12 points. The Huskies forced 20 Mayo turnovers and out-rebounded the Spartans 36-23. Owatonna (1-1) goes to Mankato West on Thursday and travels to Farmington on Friday.
