Owatonna led at the half 34-29 but battled foul trouble in the second half and lost to the top-five ranked Cougars 66-62.

Mankato East shot 35 free throws compared to Owatonna's eight. The Huskies (0-1) were led by Dalton Kubista's 16 points. Mason Thein added 13. Eli Havelka and Jay Sullivan each scored eight. Mankato East (2-0) was led by Krisean Coffee with 26 points.

Kubista was named the Kottke Jeweler's diamond player of the game.

The Huskies have their home opener on Tuesday, December 1, versus Rochester Mayo (1-2). The Cougars play at Rochester JM on Tuesday in a battle of top 10-ranked teams.
