The Owatonna High School baseball coaching staff and varsity pitchers will host a pitching initiative for current fourth and fifth graders Tuesday, May 3, at Dartt's Park.

The new program for 2016 aims to accelerate pitching and throwing mechanics, according to the Owatonna baseball website. The program is called Ramp Up and is a combined effort of the high school team, Little League and the U11 program.

Players who are currently in fourth or fifth grade are invited to Fuller Field at Dartt's Park for the clinic Tuesday, May 3, at about 7:15PM. The clinic follows an OHS game versus Northfield. Six sessions are scheduled. Players are not required to attend all the sessions. Participants should wear baseball pants, cleats and bring their glove.

Other dates are Tuesday, May 10; Monday, May 16; Monday, May 23; Thursday, May 26; and Wednesday, June 1. Most dates feature a Huskies varsity game with the clinic beginning after the game at 7:15PM.

Owatonna baseball also announces that Scott's Pitch, Hit and Run contest has been rescheduled to Wednesday, May 4, after bad weather forced postponement in April. The event is open to boys and girls ages 7-12 and will be at the Owatonna junior high fields from 5:30-7:30PM. This program is sponsored by Major League Baseball. Winners can advance to regional and national competition.

The Huskies host Northfield on Tuesday at 5PM in a nonconference match-up. The Raiders rallied to beat Owatonna 3-2 in the Huskies' season opener April 12. OHS plays at Faribault on Thursday in a game to be broadcast on KRFO AM 1390. The Huskies make up their game at Rochester Mayo on Friday, according to coach Tate Cummins.
