The Skippers jumped out to a quick 9-1 lead but Owatonna battled back in the rain before losing 10-5 in a nonconference game at Veterans' Field at Minnetonka High School.

Minnetonka scored three runs in each of their first three innings to build an insurmountable lead against the Huskies. Division I prospect Jimmy Ramsey belted a two-double in the bottom of the first to open the scoring. He also took the mound to start the game. The 6-7 junior with a lively fastball made for an imposing presence. He went four innings. The Huskies scored all their runs off him. Alec Holcomb tripled in Blake Westphal in the third inning. And OHS added four runs on just one hit in the fourth.

Minnetonka pitching held Owatonna to three hits and struck out 11 batters. The Skippers had 11 hits, including a home run and three doubles. Owatonna used three pitchers. Each went two innings. Jacob Gauthier started, followed by Matt Bothun and Brock Hanson.

Play continued through several periods of rain, which fell heavily for short periods of time. Some fans who arrived wearing shorts in the 80-degree weather, scurried to their cars for blankets and heavy jackets as temperatures dropped significantly.

The Huskies (1-2) play at Albert Lea on Tuesday, at Rochester Century on Thursday (on KRFO AM 1390) and versus Mankato East at Siebert Field at the University of Minnesota on Friday.

Owatonna's boys golf team dropped their Big Nine Conference opener 312-337 at Mankato East. The Huskies go to the Alexandria meet Thursday.

NRHEG softball recovered for an early 6-0 deficit to beat Medford 16-6. The Panthers had 16 hits, including five extra base hits. Anna Lundberg struck out eight.

Medford baseball defeated NRHEG 5-2 powered by Nick Meixner's complete game, 10-strikeout performance.
