Owatonna Adapted Floor Hockey Returns to State

The Owatonna High School adapted floor hockey team qualified for the state tournament again. The Huskies take an unbeaten record to state and face the defending state champs in the first round.

Almost as automatic as the return of spring, the Huskies' adapted floor hockey team has qualified for the state tournament March 11-12 at Bloomington Jefferson High School. Owatonna has sent a team to the state tournament 12 of the past 14 years, winning the state title in 2004. OHS has lost in the consolation final each of the past two years.

This year Owatonna (11-0) is the top seed out of the south division, according to the state high school league and faces defending state champ Dakota United (7-5) in Friday night's quarterfinals at 8PM. The Huskies beat the Hawks 10-6 on February 9.

The other quarterfinals are North Suburban (11-0) against Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville (8-3), South Washington (7-1) versus St Cloud Area (9-3) and Anoka-Hennepin against Wayzata/Minnetonka (4-7).

Championship and consolation semifinals are Saturday. The consolation final is at 1:45PM. The third-place game is at 3:30PM and the championship game is at 4PM. All games are at Bloomington Jefferson High School.

A gym the size of a basketball court is used for adapted floor hockey, according to the high school league. The puck can be played off the walls and bleachers. Each team has six players. One may move the length of the floor. Two on offense and defense must stay on one side of the center line. Each side also has a goalie. The game has three periods. The first two are running time, while the third period is stop time.
