Outfield Collision Allows Lastrup to Defeat Waterville

The Lastrup Lakers scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 4-3 lead over the Waterville Indians and held onto that score for the win in Shakopee Sunday.  It was the opening round of the Minnesota Class C State Amateur Baseball Tournament.  The tying run and winning run scored when Waterville outfielders Riley Schultz and Tom Gannon collided in right center.  Schultz did catch the ball but both players were laying in pain and Lastrup's Paul Herman alertly scored from second base on the play to give his team the lead.

Waterville did have four errors in the game which factored in three of the four Lakers runs.  The Indians took the lead in the bottom of the second inning when Ben Boran crushed the first pitch he saw over the left field fence for a two run homer.  Nolan Grose opened the inning getting on base by an error.  Boran's one out 338 foot home run was one of 6 Waterville hits.  Lastrup had 7 hits.

The Indians third run came in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Boran was walked on four pitches to start the inning.  Following back to back singles the bases were loaded.  After a strikeout Nate Lee lifted a fly ball to score Boran and that's the only run Waterville would get in the inning.

Luke Sellner started the game on the hill for the Indians and left after 7 innings.  He threw 99 pitches, 71 for strikes, had two strikeouts and two walks while allowing all 7 of the Lakers hits and all their runs.  Only one was earned.  Dalton Grose threw the last two innings for Waterville.  He threw 29 pitches, 17 for strikes with a strikeout, hit batter and walk.

Lastrup had 7 hits and Waterville 6 in the game but the difference in the game was 4 Indian errors and just one for the Lakers.  Chad Weiss was the winning pitcher and Preston Rochelau had a save for Lastrup.
