A group was put together in the studio and another group goes on tour after one hit: The Hondells.

Record producer Gary Usher, a friend of Beach Boys' Brian Wilson, put together a group and put the name The Hondells to them, according to oldies.com.

The Hondells at the time in the studio included Kurt Boettcher, Chuck Girard, Joe Kelly of the Castells, and Glen Campbell. Songfacts.com mentioned that Brian Wilson and Ritchie Burns were also in the group.

Bringing in the surf sound and Honda motorcycles, The Hondells' 1964 hit "Little Honda" was a Top 10 hit, charting at No. 9. The song was put together to advertise for Honda. When the Beach Boys went on TV and sang the song, they changed it to "Little Cycle."

Usher then reassembled the group to go on tour with Ritchie Burns as the lead singer.

The Hondells appeared on TV and "beach movies" and even recorded more music and two did chart. One in 1964, "My Buddy Seat," and "Younger Girl," which was a cover of a Lovin' Spoonful song, in 1966. After that, other songs and albums did not chart.

In 1970, The Hondells, group and name, retired.
