Originally from Memphis, they first formed in the early '60s at The Gents: The Gentrys, from imdb.com.

Members include on vocals Bruce Bowles and Jimmy Hart, keyboardist Bobby Fisher, playing the trumpet and keyboards Jimmy Johnson, bass played by Pat Neal, guitarist and vocalist Larry Raspberry and playing the drums Larry Wall. The seven-member group named The Gents formed in 1963 and first signed with Youngstown after winning a Battle of the Bands contest.

The Treadwell High School alumni, according to thegentrys.biz, recorded "Keep on Dancing" in late 1965 as The Gentrys and that reached No. 4 on the charts.

The Gentrys performed on TV shows such as Hullabaloo and Where the Action Is and also went on tour with The Beach Boys, also Sonny and Cher.

Shortly after appearing as themselves in the 1966 movie It's A Bikini World, they disbanded.

Jimmy Hart as lead vocalist reformed The Gentrys in 1969 with new members, Steve Spear on bass, keyboardist David Beaver, guitarist Jimmy Tarbutton and Mike Gardner on drums. The new Gentrys one album produced two singles in the Top 100 including "Cinnamon Girl," before Neil Young, and "Why Should I Cry."

Hart later formed a new The Gentrys and recorded another album.

On a side note, as lead singer and guitarist Larry Raspberry went solo and shortly after formed The Highsteppers with his wife, former Miss Tennesse Carol Ferrante. They are popular in the Memphis area and have recorded a couple of albums.

Raspberry also has done some acting and songwriting. He has written for Carly Simon, Everly Brothers, Jimmy Buffet and Carl Perkins.
