He was born in Arkansas, wrote with and for many artists and even lived in Brazil -- J.J. Jackson.

Jerome Louis Jackson, best known as J.J. Jackson, was born in 1941 in Arkansas, according to mentalitch.com.

He wrote his own music and worked with a number of artists, including The Shangri-Las, in the early to mid-'60s. Jackson was known as a belter and in 1966 he released a side B song that was a hit. "But It's Alright" peaked at No. 4. Top jazz musicians in the United Kingdom recorded the song and then became Jackson's backing musicians: Terry Smith on guitar, Dick Morrissey on tenor sax and John Marshall playing the drums.

Jackson then changed record labels and released "But It's Alright" again. It did not reach the Top 40.

Jackson became known as Leo Robinson when he moved to Brazil in 1980. He released two singles -- "Out of Common" and "To My Head."

J. J. Jackson lives in Florida.
